A sustainable food system does not end at the dinner table – it also extends to how bio-waste is collected and processed. This session takes the participants on a tour visit to a biogas plant and an eco-industrial center in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Region to learn more about the Finnish expertise in bio-waste management and nutrient recycling.
Bio-waste is generated in households every day. When sorted correctly, bio-waste can be used in energy production, soil conditioner and even as recycled nutrients. Come and join us for a tour to a biogas plant in Lohja (Gasum) and the Eco-industrial centre in Ämmässuo (HSY) to take a closer look of the Finnish expertise in circular economy, biogas production and nutrient recycling!
Welcome to this tour to learn about the operation of the biogas plant and the Eco-industrial centre in the Uusimaa Region. We will also have a seminar session in Lohja, where we will hear a presentation about nutrient balance maps and their relevance in circular economy, while having coffee and snacks.
The tour will be taken by a chartered bus, which will leave from the city center of Helsinki. The exact place for departure will be sent to the participants later in May.
This session will be of interest to bio-waste, biogas, nutrient recycling and circular economy professionals, and everyone else interested in these topics. The language of the visit is English, unless all participants speak Finnish.
This event is an Accelerator Session at the World Circular Economy Forum 2023 (www.WCEF2023.com). The event is organized by FinBaltRecycling, which is a nutrient recycling cooperation financed by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland, and the Finnish Biocycle and Biogas Association.
Time: Friday, 2 June 2023 from 8:30 until approximately 14:00/14:30
Place: Departure from Helsinki city center (exact location will be sent to participants later)
Please note that we might arrive back to city center after 14:00.
In order to visit the biogas plant, you need to do the short safety course (link to the online version in Finnish; English instruction will be given on site).
The tour is free of charge. The first 35 people to register will be able to join the tour. Registration will close when all places have been filled, but no later than 25.5.2023. Registration is binding.
